20 Fun Things to do in the Finger Lakes this Fall

The  Finger Lakes are exceptional year around, But I think the region really shines in the autumn. The fall foliage is some of the most beautiful in the country, and it is hard to resist all the farm stands brimming with the season’s harvest.

Whether you want to take part in the harvest at a U-Pick orchard, do a little shopping, or take a hike along one of the many nature trails in the area there is something for everyone here, and I have put together a quick list of 20 fun things I would like to try to do this fall.

20 Fun things to do in the Finger Lakes this Fall

  1. Visit Mount Hope Cemetery, Whether you love nature, headstones, or history this is one place you don’t want to miss.
  2. Fall Sky Rides at Bristol Mountain Resort – Canandaigua, NY. Sat. & Sun., 9/25-10/31  Noon to 4 p.m. Open Columbus Day.
  3. Enjoy Cider Donuts from Wager’s Cider Mill – Penn Yan, NY- August thru December. Check Website for hours.
  4. Take a bite out of the Apple Tasting Tour– Throughout Wayne County – Check website & with individual farms for schedule.
  5. Explore the Corn Maze at Longacres Farms – Macedon, NY – Weekends 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last ticket sold). Open Columbus Day.
  6. Glass Harvest and Glass Pumpkin blowing at Corning Museum of Glass – Corning, NY – Daily 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  7. Fall Festival featuring the Agricultural Fair at Genessee Country Village & Museum  – Mumford, New York 14511 – 10-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, October 1st & 2nd.
  8. Pick your own pumpkins or apples throughout the Finger Lakes – Confirm dates & time with individual farms.
  9. RMSC Cumming Nature Center – Naples, NY – Trails open Wed-Friday 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m, Sat. & Sun 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  10. All aboard! Hop on the Fall Foilage Express trains will depart from the Conesus Lake Sportsman’s Club in Lakeville.Enjoy a 20 mile round trip through the beautiful Genesee Valley country between Lakeville and Industry. Check website for full details
  11. Visit an Amish or Mennonite Food Store and stock up on baking ingredients for cooler weather baking.
  12. Take a cooking or wine class at the New York Wine and Culinary Center – Canandaigua.  Check website for class schedule.
  13. Visit the Zurich Bog -Arcadia, NY-  This acid bogs is home to peat moss and several threatened and endangered species.  In the  fall the Peat on the surface of the bog turns brilliantly red.
  14. Take a spooky stroll with Rochester Candlelight Ghost Walks‘ tours take you through the REAL haunted Rochester, sharing Rochester’s unique history and infamous true ghost stories
  15. Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society Moonlight Cemetery Tour, actors in period costume that portray historic citizens from Williamson and Pulneyville’s past. -October 14th &15th 7pm. & 8pm.
  16. Visit Genesee Country Village & Museum for “Spirits of the Past“- Take an after-hours guided tour through the candlelit and spooky streets of the historic village – Mumford – Oct. 14th-15th & 20th-21st 6-9 p.m. Reservations Required
  17. Hike and leaf peep in Letchworth State Park – Entrances at Perry, Castile, Portageville and Mt. Morris – Daily 6 a.m. – 11 p.m.
  18. Grab some Grape pie at the Naples Grape Festival -Naples, NY- September 24 & 25, 2016 – See website for the schedule of events.
  19. Fall Fest of Greater Rochester, Located on the same grounds as the Haunted Hayrides of Greater Rochester in Williamson, NY,  with lots of family friendly non-scary activities.
  20. Kick off FLX Cider week at Lagoner Farms Cider Fest -Williamson  Hard Cider, Live Music & Food. Friday, September 30th 6-10pm
  21. Because we can’t forget about the wine! Visit the Canandaigua, Cayuga, Keuka or Seneca Lake Wine Trails to savor the season sipping fruits from the vine.

  1. My husband and I just went to Naples and got a grape pie today from Cindy’s. Not the grape festival, but pie is pie. The colors were magnificent.
