2016 New Years Resolution: Avoid Under-Cooked Seafood

Sharing is caring!

It seems like 2016 is flying by already!

My Feedly account is full of other bloggers sharing their resolutions, words of the year, and goals. As nice as it would be nice to streamline my wardrobe and maybe drink less coffee and more water. My mind has been focused on more immediate issues.

Let me begin by saying I’ve never really wanted to write about health issues on the blog, but at the same time it’s what I’m authentically going through right now, and let’s face it I have never shied away from over-sharing.

Right before New Years I came down with an infection, that was most likely caused from some undercooked seafood I had at a restaurant before Christmas. It turns out the bacteria that is causing all the trouble is pretty rare, only 16 documented cases in humans last year, and to top it off I am allergic to the antibiotics that are most effective in the treatment of this particular type of bacteria.

So yeah, 2016 is not off to a great start for me.

I am on the second round of antibiotics, and this one is pretty horrible, but I am hopeful it will give this bacteria the boot. The truth is, at this point the medicine is worse than the illness ever was.

The sudden radio silence is not typical of me or Home in the Finger Lakes, and I thought deserved a little explanation.  I do have plans and goals for the blog, but right now I am just working on getting better. I have been resting, reading, and like the rest of the country, I am completely caught up in Making A Murderer.  Have you seen it?? Shocking and disturbing!

Anyway, I am still here, just lying low for now.

I hope your New Years are off to a great start & I will be back soon!

  1. So…are you getting free meals for life at that restaurant? Not that you even want to eat there again…..
Sorry to hear what you are going through – I hope this last round gets you back to normal.

  2. Jennifer! I’m so sorry to hear you’re not feeling well! That infection sounds absolutely miserable! Sending you prayers for a quick recovery….
