But first, if you are new to making salad dressing let’s cover some basics.

How Long Do Homemade Salad Dressing Last?

According to Taste of Home, simple vinaigrettes can be kept sealed, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Dairy-based dressings, like blue cheese, and dressings made with fresh ingredients, like chopped onion and garlic, fresh herbs, tomato sauce and chopped hard-boiled egg, will keep in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

What Do You Store Homemade Salad Dressings In?

When I first started making my own homemade salad dressings I used one of those little glass cruets with a rubberized stopper, and while it looked great functionally in was a mess. I had to use a funnel to measure ingredients into the cruet, and when it came time to dress a salad the cruet would dribble salad dressing all over the place.

I’ve since figured out that thicker homemade salad dressings like blue cheese and 1000 Island dressing are better spooned onto your salad, so I prefer to mix and store those in Ball Mason Jars. Thinner salad dressings like vinaigrettes and French dressing are better stored and served in cruet designed especially for salad dressings like the OXO Good Grips Salad Dressing Shaker, which does a wonderful job mixing, storing and serving salad dressings.
