Summer Bucket List 2013

Sharing is caring!

We live on a farm, which is nice in a lot of aspects, but come September when the kids go back to school, and they realize all their friends went of vacations and actually did stuff over summer break I feel like I have dropped the ball, when their “what I did over summer” paper looks like this:

Picked corn, watched cows give birth, played in the hose.

corn
Where I vacationed last summer…
cow
This calf and I have bonded, although Mama is not to sure about it…

Of  course we do more, like go to cookouts and picnics, but those seem to happen  in excess and no one really wants to see another hot dog about  mid July, or have another chat about the weather.

Summer goes fast, really fast, especially when you are farming, So this year I decided to put together a summer bucket list, so if we found our selves with a free afternoon, we could pick something off the list to do, and hopefully avoid the boring “What I did over summer vacation” papers in September.

    • Go to Grimes Glen
    • Sulphur Springs Festival  in Clifton Springs, NY June 1st. Love their parade!
    • Phelps Sauerkraut Weekend Thursday, August 1 –Sunday, August 4, the kids like the cabbage bowling!
    • Pumpkin Hook Carnival! Usually the first weekend in August, but I have not seen anything official yet…
    • Take the kids to get their first garbage plates
    • Go to the Seneca Park Zoo I really can not believe I am admitting this but it has been a really really long time since we have been there..
    • Hopefully catch a free concert at Finger Lakes Race Track, I have not heard who is coming yet this summer, but I would not mind seeing Eddie Money again 🙂
    • Eddie Money Finger Lakes Race Track

    • Go Fishing
    • Catch Fireflies
    • Go Bowling
    • 4th of July Fireworks
    • Take the kids to Roseland Water Park
    • Miniature golfing
    • Build a Sand Castle
    • Make some entries for the county fair
    • Go to the State Fair in Syracuse
    • Picnic lunch at a playground
    • Plan my 10th wedding anniversary picinc!

So what are your summer must dos? Do you create a bucket list or just go with the flow?

  1. Sometimes I wish we lived on a farm. I know the work is hard, but it just seems like a ‘back to basics’ life. The grass is always greener, right? LOL Great bucket list. We usually don’t do anything special. They mostly stay up late, wake up late, swim/layout and make a big mess for me to clean up lol. We are thinking of going to our family cabin in Colorado this year. It’s been a few years since we’ve gone.

    1. I should not complain 🙂 We love it and would not have it any other way, but summer does seem to slip by WAY to fast.
A cabin in Colorado sounds like it could be a lot of fun!

  2. I forgot to add our plans – we will be spending time on our land in S Bristol – and we have a genuine vacation planned – taking our grandson to Sanibel/Captiva in FL.

    1. Bristol is a beautiful area! I had family in Naples, and always loved the drive on that side of Canandaigua Lake, it is very scenic.
I had to laugh at your comment about the “genuine vacation” I was just telling my husband we need to plan a “real vacation” LOL something a little more than a 3 day trip to the 1000 Islands! Enjoy your time in Florida!!

    1. Teresa, I had no idea! Thank you for sharing the link! I emailed the page to my hubs, I am hoping we can make it to the concert, we had fun at the last one @ Finger Lakes Race Track.

  3. Oh to live on a farm! Your kids experience so many wonderful things each day, simply by being on a farm! But I like your bucket list!!

    1. Meg,
The last birth they saw last summer was slightly traumatic, everyone was fine, But even I cringed, I kept sending the kids away, but it was a like a train wreck, we were all standing there holding our breath and unable to look away. Turned out the calf was coming out head first, they should come out front feet first. Mom cow finally gave birth with no help, but it was tense…
