Crackled Butter Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup Butter softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Water
  • 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 375°F line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Combine 1 cup sugar and 3/4 cup butter in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add egg and vanilla; continue beating until well mixed. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.
  • Place remaining 1 cup sugar in small bowl. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Dip top of each ball in water, then in sugar. Place 2 inches apart onto cookie sheets. Bake 8-14 minutes or until edges are very lightly browned.

Notes

Do not roll the whole cookie dough ball into the sugar, just dip the top of the cookie dough ball into the sugar, otherwise the sugar on the bottom of the cookie melts all over your cookie sheet during baking.
