Valentine’s Day is coming up. While the feeling of love is warm inside me, the cold weather here in the Finger Lakes is at its peak! But that means extra snuggles and cozy blankets, and that’s okay with me!

As the holiday of love approaches, it’s fun to reminisce on years past. Those years are filled with all the traditional Valentine’s Day tropes like dinners and movies with my husband, boxes of chocolates and bouquets of flowers. While these sweet moments definitely make you feel special, it’s important for us to take time to treat ourselves, too!

This year, along with celebrating Valentine’s Day with those you love most, why not show yourself some extra love? Check out these simple ways to care a little more for yourself this Valentine’s Day:

Make yourself your favorite meal

Pick out something you love to eat; pizza, a pasta dish, or maybe a yummy chocolate dessert. Whatever it is, make sure it’s something you enjoy indulging in, and indulge – with no regrets, of course. Bonus points if you make your favorite meal to share with your loved ones! You’ll feel twice the gratitude if you do.

Get an energizing workout in

Staying healthy and fit is important to me, and this year, I’m taking control of it. Finding an exercise routine you like and can stick to will bring you more motivation to accomplish your fitness goals. We all know that working out and breaking a sweat can boost your mood. The happier we are with ourselves, the happier those around us will be too.

Wear something that expresses your own kind of sexy

It’s time to break down the walls of those traditional Valentine’s Day rules of lingerie. Wearing something that makes YOU feel your own kind of sexy is the new way to look at it. It could be a simple bra that gives you proper support and hugs your curves perfectly. Or maybe you’re a cute matching pajama set type of gal. Feeling your own kind of sexy doesn’t always have to include lacy lingerie.

Write down what you love about yourself

Take the time to jot down qualities you love about yourself. It’s is a great way to reflect on the things that make you, you. Rather than focusing on what you want to improve, whether it’s a physical feature or a situation in your life, use those qualities about yourself to express your uniqueness. Write it down! Publish a blog post about it! Go back and read the list you curate for yourself every time you have self doubt. Loving yourself just the way you are is most important.

Allow yourself to get some rest

Being a busy mom is a tough job, and we strive to be the best moms we can be while juggling everything else life throws our way. It sometimes seems impossible to get a full night’s sleep. But it’s important, especially for busy moms, to take the time to let our bodies and minds rest. Practicing yoga, reducing screen time and journaling right before bed are just a few tips to get sleeping patterns on track in order to feel our best.

Try one (or all of these) this Valentine’s Day to spark some self love. After all, we deserve it, no matter what day!
