Ranch Dressing MixI have been playing around more and more with homemade substitutions for packaged convenience foods, it is something I have actually enjoyed doing and it is really helpful when it comes to keeping the grocery budget under control.

Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix is the latest homemade mix to hit my pantry, it took me a while to actually post the recipe here because I have been testing it out, A LOT. There are so many uses for Ranch Mix, I wanted to make sure this homemade mix is as versatile as commercially prepared  ranch mixes. After all my testing I found out Homemade Ranch Mix is just as versatile as the store bought stuff, minus the ridiculous amount of salt and addition of MSG.

I think it is pretty safe to say ranch dressing goes with pretty much everything, but aside from dressing, my favorite uses for Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix are in Slow Cooker Cheesy Bacon Ranch Potatoes, and in Greek yogurt as a dip for fresh veggies.

What is your favorite way to enjoy the flavors of ranch?

Yield: 1

To Make the Dry Mix

  • 1 cup Dry Buttermilk * See note below
  • 2-1/2 Tablespoons Dried Parsley, divided
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Dill, divided
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Onion Powder
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Dried Onion Flakes
  • 2-1/4 teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Coarse Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne

For Ranch Dressing:

  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream
  • 3 tablespoons Bulk Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
  • 2/3 to 1 cup of Milk

For Dip:

  • 1 cup Sour Cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons Bulk Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
  • Milk to thin out as desired

  1. In a spice grinder or small food processor; measure and add in the dried buttermilk, 2 tablespoons dried parsley, 1 teaspoon dried dill. Place the remaining 1/2 tablespoon parsley and 1 teaspoon dried dill and set off to the side. Measure and add in the onion powder, dried onion flakes, kosher salt, sugar, paprika, cayenne, salt and pepper. Turn on the processor and let it run until all the spices are blended into the buttermilk powder.
  2. Transfer the ranch mix into a jar or container {that has a tight-fitting lid} and add in the reserved parsley and dill. Whisk to combine.

*You can omit the buttermilk powder if you would like to use fresh buttermilk, in place of milk when you prepare the dressing
